canción de la semana

ELLA MENEA-- NG2
Artist info:
I first heard NG2 after mis padres came back from their salsa cruise and NG2 performed on the ship. My mom was raving about how good NG2 was and yadda yadda, so she bought their CD, ¡Al Fin!. With the first listen, I was addicted. My favorite songs from that album have to be Como Amigo No and Amanacer Contigo. This song, Ella Menea, has been playing on Latino radios nationwide, and as soon as I listened to it, I loved it. NG2 stands for NUEVA GENERACIÓN 2, and these Puerto Rican boys are the descendants of El Gran Combo-- literally.
So enjoy Ella Menea and tell me what you think of it in the comments. :)

latino trend for the week of april 21

so, me being latina and all, i know and completely understand the fact that the majority of all latinas (*coughmifamiliacough*) don't really enjoy spending a ton of money on clothes... most of my family shops at the goodwill and wal mart. i'm not saying theres anything wrong with that-- but there comes a time and place (like work?!?) where they need to dress up a little more than usual. so i present to you this weeks latina trend, and each item is under 20 bucks, and the whole outfit is under 50.

this look is perfect for latinas at work. and its cheap, and definitely muy bonita. first of all, take this simple yet elegant little number and pair it with this classy little necklace. These shoes add a touch of sophistication to this outfit, and it is comfortable. And add this cute belt so your dress isn't so "blah". so if we add this all up, the grand total of this chic little number is $44.90. ¡Que belleza!

and latinas-- stay away from the big hoop earrings and opt for a classier choice, like maybe cubic zirconium studs.

besitos,
bb

stuff latinos like #1: slicked back hair

Have you ever wondered how to spot the Latina in a crowded public space? It's simple. Scan the crowd, spot the excessive use of hair gel (preferably on dark brown or black hair, maybe even with some highlights), then proceed to check for a "burnt cinnamon bun" seemingly attatched to the back side of her head. This "cinnamon bun" look is very hard to achieve so the Latina must painstakingly insert multi-colored bobby pins in and around the hair. Assure yourself that the Latina is not looking while you are examining her hair style; an aggravated Latina is scarier than a lion at feeding time-- so be careful).

It is not easy to achieve this look. What many Latinas tend to do is go to a beauty supply store and purchase a vast amount of hair gel, to store and for immediate use. She then goes home and fishes out her fine-toothed comb and then proceeds to dip it into this newly acquired bucket of gel. With this gel-encrusted comb, the Latina then plasters the hair onto her head, and then makes the bun with the bobby pins. Then with the extra large can of hairspray, she then sprays more than half the can to set her hairstyle in place. The hair is then so hard that you can probably bounce a ball off the head, but this has yet to be proven.

bienvenidos!

bienvenidos! welcome to ¡Viva! blog. this is my new bundle of joy, and i hope all of you will enjoy it. i'm still kinda sorta working on the content, but so far i have planned out all the major content that you will find on my blog...
  1. stuff latinos like: a sarcastical (yes i know thats not a real word. thats kinda the point) view on all of the cosas typical hispanics love and love doing.
  2. latino trends: the hottest trends in the spanglish-speaking world. caliente.
  3. latino of the week: a latino celebrity that is worth mentioning. mentions what makes them worthy of such a special award and their major accomplishments.
  4. yo soy...: spotlight on various hispanic cultures.
  5. codes of conduct: a guide for all gringos on how to conduct themselves in a hispanic environment.
  6. ¿como estaban vestidos?: or, for all of the gringos out there, what are they wearing? criticizing the fugly outfits that some hispanics choose to torture us with.
  7. canción de la semana: song of the week. if this isn't self explanatory, then nothing in this world is.

so mind you, i am hispanic myself so its not just some random white person hating on spanish people.

enjoy ¡viva!

besitos,
xoxo la boricua
